π Several years ago, I got to know from a Bangladeshi friend about Humayun Ahmed's name while I asked him about their literature. I started looking for books that have been translated from books written in the conventional Bengali language, so that these writings will reach more readers.
π A lower middle class family, the head of the family is the only earner among them. He has 4 children and two wives. A friend of his is a part of his family too. The book was portrayed from Humayun's perspective, the eldest son of the house. The whole story is about Rabeya, a mentally unbalanced girl can be called an autistic girl. Taking advantage of her condition, someone gave her the happiness of motherhood but in time Rabeya also died. His stepbrother killed that traitor and got revenge and also got a place in the blissful hell by the judgement of court for that cold blooded murder.
π Maybe there are very few books where the aspects of human character have been portrayed so well in such detail. Love and betrayal, happiness, sorrow, grief, despair, respect, faith of a lower middle class family were beautifully portrayed. A short novel may take 2 hours or less to read, but some things will stay in the mind for a long time. Each character is presented in a very deep and beautiful way. I don't know what is in the English translated version, I wrote what I understood after I read the Bengali(original) edition. Hope you will like this book.
