π³️π Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin ( Book Review)
π³️π “I do not know what I would do if you left me. I have been alone so long—I do not think I would be able to live if I had to be alone again.”
π³️π I had decided to change my pride month pick from 'The man who was a woman' to 'Giovanni's room', as many readers had explained that the book has lots of misinterpretation from mythology. This 1956's book is considered as one of the best and most popular Classic from Gay literature, which has portrayed Gay's Lifestyle and their emotions.

π³️π In the post war Europe, a boy, David, dealing with his sexual identity, leaves America for France to discover his identity. While waiting for her lover Helen and dealing with his identity crisis, he swept into a passionate love affair with an Italian, handsome Bartender Giovanni. That small and messy room of Giovanni, where they both fell in love with each other, later ended up with lie, hiding from truth, internal conflicts, betrayal, and shame for David's sexual identity. Started with love and passion ends up with tragedy and agony, which makes David a villain for his selfish act to find his own happiness.
π³️π A 159 page's classic with Baldwin's brilliant narrations from David's perspective and portrayal of homosexuality, basic human psychology and discovering sexual identity, makes this book a must read. I read this book with an audiobook narrated by Dan Butler. I played the audiobook at 2x speed which filled the ending monologues of Giovanni with so much pain. You can't miss this beautiful classic. This proud month comes to an end for me with this. Hope you will love this book.
Happy Reading.
